Hi Amy, I should be able to make at least some of the days of the SVTI, I'm just a few miles away. Your right, I should just try different inspedtors till it passes. Ride On! Bob.

I was thinking of that last night, over 25 years, get antique plates, no inspection.

the cost of outfitting your dna springer with the harley rim will cost you.

might consider going to another inspection place and they might just pass it without it, i got lucky on my second place.

or just buy a cheap front end with brake and slap it on for inspection.

mine is titled in north carolina, anything over 35 years does not need a inspection and you run regular plates, i've put thousands of miles riding thru va and no one ever asked about no inspection sticker

good luck
bruce

Hi Bob, welcome to the family! I have found over the years that some inspectors question the front brake, some dont. ALOT of it depends on how the trike is registerd, trike, motorcycle, or still as a car. IF its registerd as a 1984 or eariler, you can register it as Antique, 1 time fee of $50 and NO INSPECTION REQUIRED! Again, welcome to BTW.  Vic Whitfield, director, Coastal BTW.................nuff said

Hiya Bob welcome to the Va family.. My trike doesn't have a front brake.. never has had one.. .. we were told if you don't have one then you are not required.. if the front end came with a front brake then yes it has to be in workin condition.
I've got a harley springer front end on my trike

And Bruce is right hope you can make the SVTI july 2,3,4 this is our 5th year and we always have a great time
the more the merrier..
We have camping on site and there are hotels all within a mile of the fairgrounds.
Bring the family and come have some fun.
Hugggs

Hello Easyrider, thanks for the welcome. Its pretty silly that VA requires a front brake on a VW trike. Because of the small amount of total weight (120 lbs out of 780) on the front wheel, I would think that any applied brake would lock up the front tire. If you can figure out how to do the front brake with out spending a bunch of money, let me know. Thanks. Ride On! Bob.

Hey Brucifer, the seller told me that the wheel was a custom Harley  wheel, it's a 19". Here are some more pics. The front end is a DNA springer at +2", for a total of 26" between axle and bottom of bottom triple tree. I see that DNA makes a front brake kit ($380.00) and a front rotor ($99.99), and I would still need the right brake lever and reservior. That's right steep for an item I'll only use on inspections (the front tire has just 110 lbs on it).  Let me know what you think. Ride On! Bob.

You may have to go with a front disc braking system. The small front drum brakes are getting harder to find. I will see what info I can come up with. By the way, WELCOME ABOARD !

Hi all, I'm Bob here in Weyers Cave, VA. Wife and I went to Colorado last week end and got a VW trike. The trip was fun but a long one in 3 1/2 days. You must not have to inspect in CO because I've installed high beam indicator and horn so far to pass VA inspection. But the BIG problem is it has no front brake! I'm told that it will not pass inspection w/o front brake, but I do have dual rear disk W/cable emergency brake. Can anyone suggest a place local that can do a complete front brake system for an affordable price ? It kills me to be sitting around not being able to legallydrive Nellie (my wifes name for the trike you go because with very little throttle you go Whoaaa Nellie ). Thanks for any help you guys can give. Ride On!
