Motorcyclists are invited to escort The Wall That Heals, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, as it nears Harrisonburg Monday afternoon.
The replica will be open for viewing 24 hours a day April 2-5 in Ralph Sampson Park in Harrisonburg.
If the weather is nice, we could have as many as 100 bikes escorting the wall, said Chimney Rock VFW Post 9660 Ladies Auxiliary President Kay Kibler, who was instrumental in arranging the walls visit to Harrisonburg The Chimney Rock Ladies Auxiliary is hosting the event.
Motorcycle groups will gather at 3 p.m. at the Sheetz in Mount Jackson before traveling south around 4 p.m. The A.M. Vets, American Legion, Harley Davidson and Rolling Thunder riders are expected to provide their escort services, Kibler said.
The parade will pass through Mount Jackson, New Market and Lacey Spring on Va. 11, then travel through Harrisonburg on Interstate 81.
The van and biker escort will exit the interstate at Pleasant Valley Road and Travel north on Va. 11 before entering downtown Harrisonburg at approximately 5:10 p.m. It will then make its way to Ralph Sampson Park.
The wall opens to the public April 2 at 8 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. opening ceremony. There is no charge to view the wall or visit the museum and information center.
